Natural Vinegar Rinse for Hair

When using a natural shampoo bar it will generally take about one week to ten days for your hair to adjust to using a natural product. Initially your hair will feel like cotton candy. This is dependent on the amount of "product" such as hair spray, that you use in your daily grooming.

Don't give up on shampoo bars! Tincture of time is all it takes a little bit of vinegar. For naturally manageable hair, add vinegar to your shampoo routine.

We recommended that you follow your shampoo with an organic, herbal, apple cider vinegar rinse.

A mere two tablespoons of any vinegar in a cup of cool water is sufficient to close the cuticle of the hair shaft.

To help you understand this a bit better, picture a shaft of hair. As you shampoo, the outermost cuticle layer of the hair, opens up, and the shampoo floats the excess dirt and oils away. This is due to the base pH of the shampoo bar reacting with your hair.

When you do your final rinse with vinegar, which is acetic acid, and the opposite of a base, the hair follicles close up.

This will not only ease combing, but will keep the static under control.

When the hair shaft is clean and closed, and no longer clogged with the residue of "product", light will reflect off each strand of hair and shine naturally. No residue is left behind to irritate your scalp and there is no need to add extra product to enhance what nature has already accomplished.

Vinegar has been known to help with dandruff.

We recommend using an organic cider vinegar but any vinegar will work well.

Just think how easy travel will be with a simple shampoo bar in your luggage. When you get to your destination, stop at the store for an inexpensive bottle of vinegar. Just leave it behind when you are ready to return home.

For a special treat, you can make your own herbal vinegar rinse. Infuse your vinegar with citrus and chamomile for blondes. Use rosemary and lavender for brunettes.

How do you do this? It's so very easy. Start with a clean mason jar that has been run through a hot wash and rinse in your dishwasher. Or you can bring pot of water to a boil with the jar in it to effectively disinfect the jar. This is the same method you would use in canning food.

Use either fresh or dried herbs in the jar, and cover with the vinegar. Wait a week or two to use.

That's as complicated as it gets. There are no magical amounts or time involved here.

I am a red head and I love a rosemary rinse.

I grow rosemary, the remembrance herb, in my garden and love to keep a small vase of it near my computer in my office to stimulate my memory.

I also love to use this as a simple salad dressing with a little extra virgin olive oil. So when you make your herbal hair care rinses, don't forget about all the other wonderful uses for the infused vinegars.

You may leave the vinegar rinse in or rinse again with clear, cool water.

Will your hair smell like a salad you might ask? I promise that once it is dry, you won't notice any lingering vinegar aroma.
