Patti’s Potions is a small business specializing in skin care from natural and renewable resources. We have developed a high quality chemical-free lip balm for hydrating your lips. It is produced in small batches using some of nature's purest ingredients known for their moisturizing, healing, and soothing qualities.

Lip balm has been around for over 100 years. In the early 1880's, Dr. C. D. Fleet, from Lynchburg, VA., invented Chap Stick.

Petroleum jelly was the primary ingredient in his lip balm. It's only become clear in recent years just how ineffective petroleum jelly is as an ingredient in lip balm.

Petroleum jelly is not absorbed by the skin. It provides only a short-term fix for dry, chapped lips. While it is not inherently bad for you, it does not provide any beneficial skin care. Petroleum jelly keeps the skin from breathing and it can -- if used frequently -- actually make your lips more chapped.

Our natural lip balm contains no petroleum jelly. It is made from 100% natural ingredients: apricot kernel oil, fractionated coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax, vitamin E and flavoring. Our unflavored herbal lip balm contains extra virgin olive oil infused with calendula which is purported to help heal dry, chapped lips.

Our cuticle balm contains some castor oil which is a humectant and will draw moisture from the air to the affected area. Our cuticle balm also has tea tree oil which is a natural antibacterial and anti-fungal and is safe to use on your lips. Shea butter is the most important ingredient in our lip balm. Shea butter's effect on the skin is different from that of petroleum jelly. Instead of lying inert on the surface of the lips, it is absorbed by the skin cells. Because it improves the moisture retention capacity of your lips, your lips will stay moisturized much longer. All of these ingredients are renewable resources.

In early adulthood, all of our skin cells -- including those in our lips -- begin to become more porous and less elastic. If shea butter -- a substance that both moisturizes the skin and restores the skin cells' elasticity -- is applied to the lips, then not only are the cells hydrated, but they gradually regain their natural elasticity so that they are better able to keep moisture from escaping.

Because unrefined shea butter contains both a high moisturizing fraction and an extraordinarily high healing fraction, it is a wonderful agent for revitalizing our skin cells so that they get back their moisture retention capacity.

Herbal Calendula Lip Balm

Many of our customers ask for a natural lip balm that is unflavored and will give maximum comfort for dry and chapped lips. This is the one that I recommend.

Frequently a lip balm tasted so good that you want to lick your lips even more.

This unflavored lip balm has calendula herb-infused extra virgin olive oil.

Calendula has long been recognized as the herb of choice to enhance natural salves and balms. Olive oil has many of it's own and unique healing properties and jojoba to soothe chapped, dry lips.

Bearly There Lip Balm

Imagine the flavor of gummy bears and your mouth will be watering for this confectionary treat. And what is so great is that while you get the satisfaction of the treat itself, you get none of the calories. Your mouth get to enjoy the fine flavor and your lips get the wonderful moisturizing properties of all the natural oils.

If you think this is just for kids, try it and you will be so surprised! You might laugh but it is a personal favorite of mine.

I looked high and low for this particular flavor as it is uncommon, but oh so special. It takes me back to those happy and carefree childhood moments

Chardonnay Lip Balm

How do you describe this wonderful lip balm? It starts with sweet white grapes enhanced with nuances of rose, jasmine, vanilla, and lemon.

Will it be too wine-y for me? Absolutely not. This is a crisp and sophisticated -- yet completely likable. Take on the humble grape for a perfect summer flavor.

We don't recommend this one for children.

Cucumber Melon Lip Balm

It's hard to imagine what this lip balm will taste like, yet if you love the fragrance in bath and body products, you will love this too. It is a cool, delicious mix of honeyed melons and fresh, green, cucumbers.

"I also wanted to RAVE about your "Happy Lips Emu & Tea Tree" Lip Balm. It's wonderful for everyday use but it also has wonderful medicinal properties...I suffer from wicked cold sores,(I have for as long as I can remember and believe me when I tell you that I've tried EVERYTHING!) Before my doctor had given me a prescription one of these out breaks could easily last 3+ weeks. (start to finish) Now using my prescription the virus part is usually done in 48hrs, but the sores can take up to a week or longer to heal.

This past week, starting on Sunday, I had a nasty out break on my upper lip...it looked like Botox gone bad!...by Tuesday (having used my script) I was at the scabby sore stage. I started using my "Happy Lips Emu & Tea Tree" Lip Balm at this point, and here it is only Friday and my lips are soft and all but healed!! The healing properties of the Tea Tree Oil is truly amazing!!

Hemp Happy Lips

Cuticle Balm

This was a request from one of my customers and is formulated differently than a lip balm. It is harder due to a higher percentage of beeswax. Yet if it is in your pocket or purse, use it on your lips also.

These are skin-loving essential oils in this balm.

Directions: apply to your cuticles and massage.

Ingredients: natural beeswax, castor oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E, calendula oil, and a blend of tea tree, rose geranium, and lavender essential oils. Net wt. 0.15 oz.(4.25g)
