Frequently asked questions about emu oil.
So what is all this fuss about emu oil?
For centuries, the aborigines of Australia have been applying Emu oil to their wounds with excellent results.
Today we find more of this natural ingredient being added to products worldwide to increase their effectiveness. It is found in pain relief creams for athletes, skin care products, and natural soaps. |

Isn't this an animal and how do you get the oil? Squeeze it??
An emu (Dromiceius novaehol-landiae) is a flightless, gray-feathered ratite bird of Australia, closely related to the ostrich. The oil comes from a thick pad of fat on the back of the bird that was initially provided by nature to protect the animal from the extreme temperatures of its Australian homeland.
Do you have to kill the bird to get the oil?
Unfortunately, yes. The emu is farm-raised as an alternative to red meat, much as the ostrich is raised. A comment from the farmers is that this is a much better behaved bird than the ostrich. All parts of the bird are used in many industries and applications. This makes the oil a sustainable natural resource.
Scientifically and anecdotally these benefits and uses have been named:
- anti-bacterial
- anti-inflammatory
- skin regenerative properties due to it's being high in oleic acid (oleic acid has better skin-penetrating qualities than vegetable oils),
- moisturizing
- doesn't clog pores
- penetrates through several layers of skin.
- assists with the healing of bed sores.
- when applied to a new cut, scrape or burn, assists with prevention of scars.
- provides sunburn relief.
- massage on muscle aches and strains for arthritis pain and inflammation.
- canker sore relief.
- useful for diaper and heat rash.
- assists with prevention of stretch marks; once stretch marks are present, assists with eliminating
- accompanying dryness and itchiness.
- makes tight skin more supple.

Natural Essential Oil & Emu Oil Soaps

When my customers say, "But I have sensitive skin" or "I have eczema" I always tell them about the benefits of emu oil. This is the only true transdermal oil that I am aware of. It has been tested extensively. The molecular structure is smaller than the epidermal cells of our skin, allowing the oil to penetrate the underlying tissues.

This is my favorite facial lotion. It has been reformulated to make it a bit thicker and to go on smoothly, while increasing trans epidermal water loss. What that means is that it is more moisturizing than ever while making a great base should you choose to use foundation.
If you love to layer your soaps and lotions for a longer lasting fragrance, add this beautiful lotion to your beauty routine. Don't forget that both emu and shea butter have anti-ageing properties.

Lathers Of Youth Emu Goat Milk Soap and Red Clover Tea Emu Shea Lotion
Layer your fragrance with the matching lotion. It is no longer necessary to make separate purchases with this duo.
This is the new Red Clover Tea lotion that is now thicker than the original and has a lovely spreadability. My customers at the market are raving about it.
The first thing you hear is "It's so soft!". Many times they have never tried artisan soaps or lotions. They try the tester then walk around a bit. Invariably they come back and purchase both.

Emu oil lotions, when first applied to the skin, can be interpreted as greasy; however, within 5-10 minutes you will notice that the oil is slowly being absorbed by the skin leaving a great feeling of overall smoothness.

"I love your lotion and the soap scent (Red Clover Tea) is so nice very pleasant. My husband has very dry skin and the only thing that helps is soap and lotions that have emu and shea butter in them. The lady I use to get it from is no longer in business and I had almost given up on finding anything close to what she made and them god led me to your web site and now I have a prayer answered."
