What is it about certain scents that transport you to a different time and place? Fragrances that are reminiscent of berries take me to my favorite time of the year.
Summertime, when the living is easy, fish are jumping, and the cotton is high. Suddenly I have a song that runs through my head and I'm lying on my back in a beautiful pastoral field, rich with fragrance, watching butterflies and trying to find Dr. Seuss animals in the clouds. Those were such happy times.
Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and apples places me in the fresh autumn air. My cheeks are pink and fingers are just a little bit cold, but I have to taste that sparkling apple right now. There is nothing more perfect, except perhaps for the pie that is baking in the oven. Oh, the anticipation of a piece of apple pie with creamy vanilla ice cream melting down the sides. Cheese anyone?
Nature does not provide us with essential oils for apples and pears. It does provide many spice essential oils, but some can be sensitizing. Cinnamon is a frequent request from our customers, but we can only use it in very tiny amounts due to this factor.
This is when we use skin safe synthetic fragrances.
Fragrances fall into several categories.
Spicy scents will often make your nose "tickle". They are pungent and carry a high amount of the chemicals eugenol and isoeugenol. Some well-known examples of spicy scents would be clove, cardamom, coriander, ginger, carnation, and lavender.
The earliest colognes were in the citrus family and citrus fragrances are still popular today. Obviously, this fragrance family would feature fragrances that are citrus and/or tart scents, i.e. lemon, lime, orange, bergamot, Clementine, yuzu, grapefruit, pineapple, mandarin, etc.
Try some of these spicy, fruity soaps and see if your day isn't just a little bit better. Not only will your skin be happy with the natural glycerin in our soaps, but will respond to the perfect properties of natural shea butter.
